At the last highland festival at Stone Mountain, I asked some of the tartan experts about the variations in thread counts,
such as the one noted above. The answer I got is that the necktie tartans, which I have used for the source of my thread counts,
are "abbreviated" by the weavers so that the pattern will fit better onto a smaller work.
This may be done when the cloth is to be used for other smaller work.
