"Hummingbird Studio" photographs are made in an open-air outdoor studio, using wild hummingbirds as my action models, and are made with high speed flash photography techniques. They usually have a white or grey cardboard background, which may be digitally altered for more sky-like colors. They typically have very sharp details, including very little motion blur, even at the wing tips.The bulk of the photographs are made at Cave Creek, near the tiny town of Portal, Arizona, and at Madera Canyon, near Green Valley, Arizona. Most species were photographed there, or at points between, notably Ash Canyon and Miller Canyon, near Sierra Vista, Arizona and Patagonia, Arizona. However, most of the Broad-Tailed Hummingbirds were photographed at Duck Creek Campground near Cedar City, Utah, and most Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds were mainly photographed at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, Near Henderson, LA.
