This salt lake is Badwater, and is at the lowest point in Death Valley National Park, California. It's 282 feet below sea level. I like the sense of scale, as the texture of the cracked mud/salt recedes into the far distance, and the contrast between lake bed, mountains, and sky, as if they are heaven, earth, and hell. I was there in early April, so it wasn't very hot yet. |
